Egg dying with silk ties, it’s EASY.

Okay, pictures as promised! To do this all you do is

1) cut up a silk tie
2)wrap the egg w/the silk print “good side” touching the shell, close off w/elastic band or tie off w/twine – I did the elastic bc I’m a little lazy.

3) wrap the silk covered egg in some kind of cotton, I used old scraps of anything I had lying around and then tie that off or wrap w/elastic, again, I did the lazy route.

4) In a NON METAL pot, place eggs in, cover in water

5) Add 3 tbs vinegar, I just threw in a big ole’ splash of it.

6) Boil for 30 minutes.

7) Let cool off!  EASY!  and not messy at all.

  1. wow, those turned out really cool! and seems way more easy- and less messy than color dye! I will have to see if I can thrift some ties to do this with though, since we dont have any!

    • Beth, Thank you!! I saw this on Martha Stewart ( I posted the link this week) and went right out to get ties – they were cleaned out at the Salvation Army, guess everyone saw that video, lol! I had my husband donate a few – pumpkin and xmas tree ties are getting cut up tomorrow. Would love to see pics if you manage it. I guess you can use anything that is silk, too so maybe a scarf?

    • @YCB, I love your post on egg dying! I put it on my FB page, I lol’d at the onion skins!!! who knew? you know, I do think grass would work better it bc it does stain things and I don’t think spinach does bc its more fiberous and grass is reedy…does that make sense? of course i also think you would need a freaking boat-load of grass, lol!
